ok, im sick of not getting into the 12's. before when my car was less powerful on street tires, i got pretty damn good times, so i know i am a capable driver, but now that the car has been bumped up about 50 HP/50 TQ, it doesnt matter how nice i drive it, i still get insane wheelspin. i cut a 13.1 @ 107 on streets with only 250 hp, so i know there is room for improvement...

i was interested in the BFG drag radials cus i can drive to the track with them if i have to. im not saying im gonna drive all over town with them, but at least to the track. ive heard a couple people complain about them being a waste of money, but since ive never used them i am looking for more input. my car is just shy of 300 hp right now. should i spend my money on these tires or should i just skip straight to slicks and just put them on at the track?

what is the price difference between a good set of slicks and a good set of BFG DOT's?

thanks for any valuable input!

joe

jsut skip to slicks, and change them out at the track. i just feel like if you're gonna spend extra money on track tires, might as well get GOOD track tires

i guess that makes sense, i just thought that mebbe the DOTs would be cheaper maybe and work good enough with the amount of power i have. im not looking to go for much more power at all, the car already runs really well...i just need some grip now.

i spent 108 a peice for my BFG drags, and i like them. i really like the fact that i can drive to the track in them, or drive to a street racing spot in them without having to switch them on the spot.

slicks are nice, but you lose the drivability of them and can only use them at the track.

i'm sticking with my BFGs they seem to do the trick at the track

I am going to get BFG DR's too. Just because I can say that i got that time on street tires. After i get into the 12's on dr's then I'll get slicks and shoot for the 11's. My 2 cents

what about some cheater slicks to mount onto my stock BBS wheels. I wanna kinda keep the stock look. and have the traction when i need to run.

ok, thats not quite what i was talking about, but i see where you were going with that.....all my times were run on REAL street tires, not street legal drag radials...lol

IMO, the BFG's aren't worth it. Go with slicks. It seems like cars power is close to yours. Mine cut a 13.09 @ 108.29 with a 2.2x 60'. I know my car has 12's in it and slicks will do that.

I got a 1.59 60' on BFGs and 1.52 on ET Streets. The ET Streets were far more consistent though. I used to drive an hour to work each way on them with skinnies on the front of my C5. Made for lots of fun in traffic and leaving tollbooths :) Just don't try to turn with slicks on...

Ok..it seems that slicks are the way to go. I have a new set of aftermarket 16 X 7 wheels that I bought on E-Bay...What is a good brand and size slick that I could use for my 2005 ACR.

I will only be using at the track(obviously) and would prefer a brand name that has a rep for the best performance no matter how long they will last.

Does anyone know if a 245/50 ZR16 tire will fit on a 205 ACR?

i dont see why not....people have made them fit on regular SRTs too. i think the rim is the biggest factor. if the rim doesnt have enough offset the tire will rub the suspension, but that can be fixed with some longer studs and a set of spacers. just dont go out too far or youll be rubbing the body then....lol

keep in mind, with that wide of a tire, you are gonna get better traction, but handling will suffer dramatically.

Even when just using them for drag racing at the track.....Is the handling that bad that I should be concerned on a 1/4 mile drag strip??

after running slicks at the rack for many years the big issues are having a little "slick wobble" at topend which is when you feel a little swaying usally caused by under inflation i usally like to keep 14-18 lbs to keep the wobble from happining. you will need a good pressure guage to check between rounds becouse with temps going up and down tire pressure is really easaly effected. you may also want to keep a small compressor or air tank handy to add air as needed. and if you dont have a speed shop localy i have always had great service with jegs and summitt racing and they usally have everything in stock and ship the same day. also when expermenting with pressures in slicks adjust pressures by 1/2-1 lb incraments sorry this is so long but i hope it helps if you have any other questions let me know ill be glad to help paul

i vote dr bc you have forgiveness,

slicks are THE best traction (1.7 60 compared to 2.2 on dr for me).. but at a price of a mechanical part.like axles or clutch.

its all what your plan is.
