HOW-TO: STS and Booger Bushings Install w/Pics

I got tired of waiting for a good install to pop up so here is my how to. I replaced my stock shifter with a new STS from Slow4dr. If you think anything needs to be added to this How To, let me know and I'll add to this Thread.

Tools Needed (STS Install Only):
1. Phillips Head Screw Driver
2. 13mm Socket w/extension
3. Vice Grips
4. Fingers

Additional Tools If Also Installing Booger Bushings:
5. Needle Nose Pliers
6. 8mm Socket
7. 10mm Socket

STEPS FOR REMOVAL:

Remove All Your Crap From Your Center Console:

Remove 4 Screws w/Phillips Head Screw Driver:

Remove 2 Screws in Cup Holders:

Pull Off The Shifter Ball, Shifter Boot and Remove the Center Console (Lift Up and Out)


You Should Now See (4) 13mm Nuts, Remove Them w/13mm Socket

Flip Shifter On It's Side and Use Your Fingers to Remove The Stock Shifter Bushings:

At This Point, If You Are Installing Booger Busings, Use Needle Nose Pliers and Twist Them Out From The Top:

Here Is What The Booger Bushings Look Like Next To The Stock Ones:

Now you need to Remove The Clips Holding The Shifter Cable (Use Vice Grips):

Grip The Clips On The Lip:

Now Reverse Everything you Just Did Except put the New STS In Place Of The Old Shifter.


Here Is The New Shifter W/Booger Bushings Installed:

Transmission Side Booger Bushing Install

Now Move Over To The Engine Bay and Remove The Stock Air Box:

Now That The Air Box Is Out, Remove the Battery and Battery Tray:

Here Are The Stock Bushings, Remove Them With The Pliers:

Here Is The Bushing Removal:

Replace the Stock Bushings With the Booger Bushings:

You are now done!! Go drive your car and feel the difference.

Twood be so! You never know when you'll need to cut off your seatbelts. There's a switch blade, I mean swiss army knife below that.

Only reason I asked is because I think I have the same one. :lol:

Curious about feel vs. stock, too. How hard are they, do they have any give to them?

I have another can of urethane leftover from filling my motor mounts and was thinking about trying to make my own..

How is the difference compared to stock?

In all honesty, I don't feel too much difference. It is easier to shift though. I would say that it is worth the $21 to get them.

hey so...your how to was great, and everything went well till it came to putting the shifter bushings in. i got one of them on, but the passenger side wont slide in all the way... it looks like the hole is too small for the metal knob..i tried for a good half hour trying to pry it in there but it wont go in and i dotn wanna break anything...any suggestions???

One thing to keep in mind is the piece the bushing is getting pushed on to isn't going to protrude outside of the hole.

if it wont go on all the way take some sand paper and try to de-burr the edge of the metal part.
\carefully and try again...

if it goes on then pops off the bushing isnt right.

what bushings are they.. boogers shouldnt do that.

theyre the booger bushings...i got them with my short-throw off of turboneonstore.com
