PS3 Games $70?


In his recent speech at the CESA event, Enterbrain president Hirokazu Hamamura was quoted as expecting PS3 games to be priced higher than usual. The president whose company owns the famous Japanese magazine Famitsu, was predicting that the cheapest PS3 software will cost around $70, while high-end PS3 games can cost as much as $80 in Japan.

What Hamamura predicted was centered around the Japanese market alone. The Japanese software price higher than anywhere else in the world has been a tradition since the Playstation's launch in 94.

According to various sources, a typical playstation 2 software already costs $65-70 for a Japanese consumer. At the same time, a consumer on the North American shore pays relatively less than that. So Hamamura's comments about expecting higher priced games for Japanese PS3 isn't surprising at all.

In the meantime, those not living in Japan, shouldn't expect PS3 software prices to climb a $20 figure overnight. There is plenty of time and events left for Sony to discuss about costs and price of their upcoming console. Chances are we may hear more about that at the Tokyo Games Show. i used to be a big sony supporter but im leaning now more towards xbox everyday. i cant until 360 comes out. i want to play it first to see if i want to wait or get it now.

I was alway an nintendo guy until the game cube,I love my playstation,But the ps3 is supposed to be 2x's faster than the 360.

I still will probably get the ps3 though.

I think Sony will wait for the release of the 360 and see how the public responds to the price. I think they will make it comparable in price, otherwise the PS3 will be a flop. Right now, it's just speculation.

It is 35 times faster than the processor in the PS2. 10 times the power of a standard PC and twice the processing power of Microsoft's new Xbox360. This technology allows for super computer like performance, moving quality images and the degree of realism that is simply amazing in a home gaming device. It's been said in the press that no other chip in the world can touch it. We are confident that this is true."

How powerful will the PS3 be?
On paper, the PS3 is 2x more powerful than the Xbox 360 and 15x more powerful than the Nintendo Revolution. It has a processing capacity of 2.18 TFLOPS, which is put into context when you realise the FASTEST computers in existence can only do 36 Terraflops. It is said to be 35x more powerful than the PlayStation 2 is.

With the high price, I doubt these will be flying off the shelf like xboxes and ps2's have done in the fast. If I do ever get one, I'm waiting to check it out first to make sure it stands up to all the hype.

That's why i just got a subscription to Gamefly. I can rent the games and see if i like them first before i buy them. At $60 for 360 games and $70 for PS3 games, i'd be really pissed if i bought a game and it turned out to suck ass:furious3:

I'll believe that screen shot when I see the actual game.. If that's just a "movie" clip from teh game BIG DEAL. But if that is how actual gameplay will look, HOLY SHIT!
