I thought it would be cool to have an engine swap thread.

Here is one that I think is pretty sick.

Talk about total sleeper. The only two things to are different from a regular E30 325 is the trunk badge "340" and the 5 lug bolt pattern. 4.0 M60 V8 from either 540i or 740i rated at 282hp.

The Chevette takes rather well to the RWD version of the 2.8/3.1L V6 (yes, the old Chevette was RWD). From a similar era:

My uncle has the chalk green 1966 Datsun 510 station wagon my grandfather built. . . he swapped in a 302, C4 (I think) tranny and a 9 inch rear end back in the early 70's. Looks stock except for the dual 2.5 inch exhausts. I'll get pics next time I am down in So Cal.

A friend found one in a junk yard a couple months ago. It sat for awhile and they eventually pulled it out and put it in the for sale section (the yard usually only sells them whole if they have a title). Someone pulled the BOV off but it was otherwise complete. Would have made a neat project as not many were made (1500-1600 if I remember correctly).

yes, but for drifting, the power delivery of a high power/ torque N/A engine is probably more beneficial than a turbo-4... especially in a relatively heavy car.

i'm sure they "dumbed up" the article a bit so the certain stereotypes who "read" hot rod magazine could grasp it, plus of course it would be worded in a way to make any V8 sound better than any turbo 80 bajillion

yes, but for drifting, the power delivery of a high power/ torque N/A engine is probably more beneficial than a turbo-4... especially in a relatively heavy car.

i'm sure they "dumbed up" the article a bit so the certain stereotypes who "read" hot rod magazine could grasp it, plus of course it would be worded in a way to make any V8 sound better than any turbo 4

Keep in mind the RB26 is a 6 cylinder and that most drift vehicles are 4 cylinder. I completely understand why they used the 8 instead of the 6 for the drifting portion. I honestly don't remember them saying it was underpowered though. They definitely worded it different than that & more towards response....again from MY memory. Mid 90's trap speeds vs. almost 110 makes it very obvious which car is making more power. I also understand that this particular magazine has to build the ego of it's readers on a monthly basis. At the end of this aprticular article they mentioned they hope this doesn't start a trend of import engines into domestics.

yea... jeff pointed that out to me

and aren't most drift vehicles 4 cylinders (or rotaries) because that's what comes in those cars....

plus aren't all drifters asian, so they naturally flock to anything with 4 cylinders?:yikes:

and aren't the american cars (drift viper and drift GTO) doing better than most of the fanboi cars?

it was? i didnt know that. i heard that in the first one (only seen once about 3 years ago) the fastest car was the muscle car at the end, and that was only a mid 12 second car:supergay: . in those 10 seconds or less i'm free:owned:

Ouch. Hubinette and Millin are gonna come over and kick your ass.

Yeah, they are. Read this months Import Tuner, they are kinda bitter about it. But both cars are gone next year, Hubinette is going to a Charger, and Millin into a Solstice.

Honestly, they probably used a BB V8 for the driving because it's cheaper and easier than trashing a fleet of RB26 mustangs. Thats standard movie practice, build 1 or 2 "show" cars, and the rest mules with nice exteriors for action shots.

Exactly. When I heard it called "drifting", I laughed, thats what we used to go do just to fuck around. Shoot, anyone who has seen the Dukes of Hazard knows that.

I was a little late on that post(got stuck on a call halfway through). I don't follow drifting enough to know what is doing well but the 4 cylinders do just fine. I would guess the GTO & Viper do well because they have a large financial backing.

The EVO that was in 2F2F ran a high 14.

i'm pretty sure it was just non turbo, because i heard they put in the blow off valve sound effects. "i think" i could be wrong.

hmmm...

so do you go by the srt-4, the nova, the truck or the civic???? :yikes:

and direct correlation means bigger motor=bigger
inverse correlation (also known as "compensation) is bigger motor=smaller :deal:

i'm stuck with the SRT-4, so i'm a god among the little guys
