Everything seemed fine until this afternoon when I'm driving my family home from Busch Gardens and about 5 minutes on the interstate I get like a knocking and the car doesn't want to go over 2000 rpm. I pull over and check the code and it's 340. I just looked it up and it's the camshaft position sensor circuit. So I made it home the rest of the way driving below 2000 rpm's. I'm going to take it back to the dealer on Monday. I took it in for maintenance and an oil change. Ended up getting 4 new tires because I needed them. I haven't driven the car hard at all since picking it up. I'm not sure what's wrong with it. I'm sure it will be expensive.

Do you have an '03? Same thing just happened recently with my dad's car.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble, boss. Hope it gets fixed promptly and at a reasonable cost. :usa:

Yup, an '03. What did they have to do to his car?

Minor warranty work, was in and out in under two days. I'll try to find out details for you if you don't get it fixed by the next time I see him.

Dropped it off and they said they'd call when they found out what the problem was. Last thing out of the service manager's mouth...do you have the extended warranty? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo..... This is going to hurt alot.

Okay, they called and it was the sensor circuit. It shorted out, apparently. $189 for parts and labor. They didn't bend me over too bad....

i got that error and had same symptoms. i replaced the cam position sensor. it's just a magnet. cost me what $30-something bucks to buy the senor. i cleaned the surface area where the sensor attached, put the new sensor on, and called it a day. this happened in, like, march i think.

Man, if I knew where it was located, I would have tried doing it myself. I thought the problem was worse than a fried sensor. I guess I know for next time.....

On the way home tonight the check engine light came on once again. This time, it was the 551 code.

P0551-POWER STEERING SWITCH PERFORMANCE

Steering seemed fine. Anything I should check? I really don't want to take it back to the dealer again.

Clear the codes and see if it comes back. :dunno:

It's a Neon. She's probably pissed you fixed the last code.

More then likely they knocked that sensor loose. Get under there and check for yourself. Section 19 of the FSM. Page 34 of that section goes over that switch specifically.
