I've been getting a shrieking sound from the front passenger side of the engine bay in the vicinity of the timing belt. What is it and how do I make it stop? :gcry:

Does it make the noise all the time?, or when you hit the gas, or just at idle?

I thought it was only when I was on the throttle, but I was adding some coolant the other day and I could hear it very loudly at idle with the hood up. So I hear it when I'm driving with low throttle applications and also at idle with a cold engine.

Might be a timing belt glide pulley. You sure it's under the cover? Got Warrenty?

I'll check it out further this weekend. Hopefully it survives the trip to Indy and back.
EDIT: So I should pay better attention to where exactly the sound is coming from. Any other tips.

Yeah it's sort of a pain to get into there might as well change the belt if you're going that far to even look in there.

I'm modded, but I haven't had a problem with warranty claims before. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

The squeek/whistle sound is rhythmic and definitely RPM dependent (more revs = more noise). Any more thoughts on what precisely it is? Is it an annoyance I can take care of on my own time, or could it be something I need to take care of now?

Sounds like a loose PS steering belt (slash A/C), or an Alternator belt.
Go in there and make sure they are tight. It would get worse with RPMs...

Take a belt off and start turning the pulleys by hand. I know when my dad's a/c pulley was going bad you'd hear the bearings or whatever and it was were worn. I put on the a/c delete pulley and man his Grand Am took off...ok maybe not.
