PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Donovan McNabb will miss Philadelphia's game against the New York Giants on Sunday with a groin injury.

Mike McMahon, who had been the third-string quarterback, will get the start over backup Koy Detmer.

McNabb's status beyond this week is uncertain. He'll see a specialist Thursday.

"He's not moving around very well," coach Andy Reid said Wednesday.

McNabb re-injured his groin Monday night while trying to tackle Cowboys safety Roy Williams after he threw an interception. Williams returned the pick 46 yards for a touchdown with 2:43 left to lead Dallas to a 21-20 comeback victory over the Eagles.

McMahon nearly led Philadelphia to the winning score after coming in for the last series against Dallas. He drove the Eagles to the Cowboys 42 before David Akers missed a 60-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds.

In four seasons with Detroit, McMahon started seven games. He had a 43.8 completion percentage with 10 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions, but he ran for 273 yards on 46 carries.

Detmer has been McNabb's backup the last six seasons. He is the No. 2 quarterback this year only because he holds the ball on extra points and field goals.

McNabb has played through several injuries this season, including a sports hernia that will require surgery. But the five-time Pro Bowl selection clearly isn't the same quarterback he's been.

McNabb has thrown a costly interception in each of the last three games, and has nine picks this season. He threw eight interceptions last year when he became the first player in NFL history to throw more than 30 touchdown passes (31) and fewer than 10 interceptions.

Overall, McNabb has passed for 2,507 yards, 16 TDs and has a passer rating of 85.0.

Do you think the eagles should sit him for the rest of the year and let all of his injuries heal.

i cant wait till we play colts and snap there winning streak, assuming the bengals dont beat them.. as far as the eagles are concern maybe they can make it the bowl cause nfc teams are questionable but then we all know that afc>nfc

I say take him out for the year...why make his injuries worse then they already are? Their season already went down hill...Let him rest, play your back ups and get a high pick in next year's draft and get him some line help!!

btw, GO STEELERS!!!

Exactly! Just pull him for the year, get him his surgery NOW, have him go through physical therpy so hes 100% for next season. If the Eagles are smart this is EXACTLY what they would do.

the only reason i could see as to why this would be a bad idea, is the media would hound that organization saying they benched donovan for the year because TO isnt there. and that he cant do it without TO. i can see it now.

Depends how bad the injury really is. The season isn't over yet, and they still have a chance (albeit a very small one). I don't think anybody else in the division has established themselves yet. If the Eagles can upset the Giants then he should try to play. If they don't then it would be pointless for him to keep playing. IMO

i think although they havent really established themselves, i think the cowboys are the powerhouse in that division. theyve taken down the top dog twice this season. i think its dallas' division to win or lose.
