At times, I find myself killing time on AutoTrader looking at all the cars that I though was hot/cool back in the 90's. Most of the time, I have this crazy idea that I would pick one up for a semi-beater just for the fun of owning one now that I have the money to pick one up. Normally, I find myself looking at the following:

Dodge Shadow ES or R/T (R/T are hard to find)
Eagle Talon Tsi
Mitsu 3000gt or VR4
Dodge Stealth
Mitsu eclipse GSX or GST

Dunno, can't think of the rest right now. What do you all find yourself looking at that you used to covet back in the 90's?

To add, anyone have anything to add to the list that might be concidered a sleeper car from the 90's? Something that most normal ppl would look over?

Dodge Shadow ES or R/T (R/T are hard to find)
The Shadow was never available as an R/T. The first R/T to appear for a couple decades was the Spirit R/T in '91, which was also the first sedan to carry the name. Considering it was the quickest production sedan in America that year (and possibly the world), it deserved to carry the designation. But what started with the Turbo III cars soon spread to the Neon (which wasn't bad in R/T trim but also wasn't quite an ACR), then Dakota, Intrepid, Stratus, etc. They watered it down and over used it too much in my opinion and then released the SRT trim/lines.

Back to the Shadow, you could look for one of the '90 Competition Package cars with the lightweight option delete package (no ground effects and only option of A/C), performance suspension, big brakes, bigger 15" wheels, special steering rack, A568 Getrag 5-speed, and best of all the Intercooled 2.2L Turbo IV with the VNT turbocharger. Only problem is they made around 31 of them. Otherwise you can find some decent Turbo ES models with the Turbo I.

My list of cars is as follows:

'90 Pontiac ASC/McLaren Turbo Grand Prix
'91 Dodge Spirit R/T
'92 Dodge Daytona IROC R/T

…oh wait, I already own those. :thumb:

As for other cars strictly from the '90s, the next on my list to someday buy are a '92-93 Olds Achieva SCX ( http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3165/is_n1_v28/ai_11856343) W-41 ( http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofwmc.htm#WM W-41) or '90-91 Saab 900 Turbo SPG ( http://www.pjgh.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/saab/specials/pages/1990-1991_spg.html). I have tracked them down, but didn't have room to store or the need to own over ten cars at the time. Other "special" rare domestic models off the top of my head:

'90 Caravan/Voyager with 2.5L Turbo I engine and A568 5-speed
'90-91 Olds Cutlass Calais Quad 442 W41 ( http://notdadsw41.home.att.net/my_w41.htm)
'90 Pontiac Grand Prix STE sedan (ASC/McLaren 3.1L Turbo V6).
'91-93 GM W-body's with the 3.4L Twin Dual Cam/DOHC 24V 3.4L V6 and Getrag 284 5-speed combo (Lumina Z34, Grand Prix GTP, and Olds Cutlass Supreme).
'91 Olds Cutlass Supreme International w/ 3.4L DOHC V6 (which I've owned).
'90-95 Olds Cutlass Supreme Convertible (which I currently own with 3.4L DOHC V6).
'90-93 HO Quad 4 GM N-body's (Grand Am GT's, Olds Achivea SC, Beretta GTZ).
-'90 Pontiac Sunbird GT Turbo
-'94 Chevy Cavalier Z24 w/ 3.1L V6 & 5-speed
'97- GM S/C 3800 V6 W-body's (Grand Prix GTP, Regal GS)
'90 Chrysler Turbo IV VNT turbo cars (Daytona Shelby VNT, LeBaron VNT 2-door hardtop, Shadow VNT
'90-92 Chrysler Turbo I cars (Daytona ES/Shelby/IROC, Shadow ES, Spirit ES, Acclaim LX, LeBaron GTC, Sundance RS/Duster, Caravan & Voyager, etc.)
'95+ Neon ACR and R/T's
'91-96 Ford Escort GT
-'95 Ford Taurus SHO
'97- Ford SVT Contour
'99 Ford Escort ZX2 S/R

Unfortunately it wasn't available in 1990, so you'll have to choose among the other two turbocharged Pontiac coupes that year. At least for this thread. :thumb:

besides adding a Dakota R/T to the mix, I have to say that this is a very fine list so far. I'm very impressed. Big thumbs up to Blackbird, talk about naming every interesting one could look for from Dodge in the 90's. :)

Also, every single car I wanted information on, wikipedia had. Who would have thought? Handy website.

Chevy Beretta. Then I'd buy a "War Stories Crew" emblem and stick it on the back with plastic spinner hubcaps and an LED exhaust tip.

Also I've always wanted to drop an Impreza STi drivetrain into a Subaru SVX body. Do 90's swap projects count?

Also, used Acura NSX.

I'd like to get a V8 Taurus SHO but I won't buy a V6 out of spite for Yamaha.

I still search the Galant VR4 forums every once in a while for a cheap one.

Syclone/Typhoon=:drooling:

A Starion with a 4G63 would be fun.

I am probably flying alone here but I'd also love to have a completely sleeper style EK Civic hatch with a 250WHP all-motor K series powerplant.

Also, the SHO V8's valve train was an "interference" design, one that is shared by many engines built today, meaning that the piston will collide with the valves if the camshaft or timing chain fails. Due to some cam sprocket failures, the engine acquired a reputation for potentially catastrophic failure

Well, scratch the SHO then. I just wanted a Taurus with the V8 growl.

A Viper''s a Viper. But there is only one ZR-1! I'd have to take both for a test drive first but going into it I'd be wanting the ZR-1 over the Viper. I've always loved those cars. There's a autotive repair shop over by where I work and the owner of the place is loaded. He has a Pantera, brand new Z06, ZR-1, Ferrari 360 Modena, Audi RS6, and a Ford GT.
