There have been alot of people powder coat their stockers. So far all of them I have seen look good. Like punk said they must be done correctly.

I'll check with Shaun(poorwboy) and see if he has any pics. He has a red with gunmetal in Redlands and it looks very good. He might even be willing to sell them/partial trade.

I powder coated my stock wheels. Looks great if you take the time and put in the effort.
Stripping the wheels took about 6 hours a peice, and coating was probably an hour or two each. (It takes forever for these things to cool down!).

Powder coat is the way to go!

Hotwheels style FTW!! I actually have a set of black ones in the garage for the first gen right now too, just need two more tires.

i saw someone a long time ago on the other site that had a stocker cut in half, and then a strip of metal welded in to make them 17x7's. they looked good, but durability scares me a little

Most "reputable" places that do wheel widening use two wheels to make one so there is only one weld seam. That would give me a "little" more confidence.

i think the guy only had the 4 wheels, so they did it that way since that's what they had to work with. the welds looked very nice and all, so i'm sure it was good work... still not the safest

And probably cost him as much as a new set of wheels. I'm just to cheap to buy wheels is all.
