I just bought the new Teflon wax and my pops said i shouldnt use it on black cars because it likes to haise over. He knows he use to have a Nasty black Conquest TSI back in the day with a Turbo swap. Anyone have any opinions on what Kind i should use. I know mothers is good but They dont sell it anywhere around here.

I use Zymol and it seems to work great for me. Next time I wax it, you can drive over and check it out.

turtle wax platinum here, I got a black car and it comes out great, but I have a personal detailer that uses this wax that jay leno and all the rich people use, it's supposively great and it feels really smooth

Detailing is almost an art form in and of itself. And like most arts you'll find different styles, techniques, and preferred products. Zaino is generally regarded as being one of the top tier products but is expensive. The Turtlewax Platinum is a lot more affordable and has a great price but is a little harder to work with. I've mostly used Meguiar's products over the years and have been very happy.

The "Teflon" additive (or PTFE as the chemical combination is known as) is owned and produced by DuPont and has been used in everything from cookware, to waxes, to oil additives. I thought DuPont was selling their own line of products now emphasizing the Teflon content but I haven't done any research to see if another company is making it for them. There's also a ton of other car care brands and products that use it, so without knowing which one you have it's hard to say much about it. I've always seen it as a marketing gimmick in a majority of the products, so my guess is you could find something a little better quality. And all the other ingredients can make a big difference in a product as well.

One other note on detailing in general, after a somewhat long run of Chrysler's and turbo Dodge's that I've owned I've seen just about every paint defect you can imagine. They've never had great paint from the factory and the Neon was no exception. I haven't had it checked, but I'd bet the clear coat isn't very thick and of the best quality. If the car sits outside and in the sun a lot, in a few years time we'll probably start seeing some of the common clear coat hazing show up on most of the common SRT-4 colors. For those reasons I'd try to find a good product with minimal petroleum distillates that will soften the surface and also try to find something with good UV protection. As the paint is still young on most of the SRT-4's, using clay bars can also be a great tool but remember that it is still a slight abrasive and I wouldn't use one a lot as the car gets older. And be very careful about any abrasive products to remove swirls and road debris.

Yeah, it costs $70 per once so it must be good. A guy with a Porsche said so. Care to buy some Amsoil or maybe some Bose speakers along with that?

It is some pretty good stuff from what I've seen. But I've had excellent results with some non-specialty waxes. Or just go buy a used DeLorean so you don't have to worry about paint. I saw one on a used car lot south of San Diego a few months before I left. :thumb:

Meguires NXT Generation this is what i use on my truck - i've tested MANY products. I use that wax with an orbital buffer and to dust it or just quickie it get some Meguires Final Inspection. You won't regret it... Order it from meguires.com and you don't even need to go out or go searching for it. Here's a pick of the truck...the pictures don't even do it justice.

Testing has proven zaino as one of the best..I'll have to find some links to independent testing of high end waxes. NXT and other various mequiars products(inc. the 3 step) aren't that bad...I just find that they don't last very long.

Whatever you do,...don't use cheap walmart microfiber, chamois, waterblades, or non 100% cotton towels to dry ur car...you'll end up with scratch/swirls galore. Buy the expensive microfiber,..or better yet, go buy some 100% cotton/made in the usa bath towels(those $20 towels in department stores) and then cut off the edges. Works like a charm. No swirl marks. Care for them by washing in dye/scent free detergent, and use no fabric softener.

On a side note,...visit http://www.zainobros.com Browse through the customer car gallery and read testimonials. I swear, once you try their products,..you'll never use another wax. You can buy a kit for about $85 which includes everything you can think of....applicators, wax, polish, detail spray, etc.

black car--the BEST shine is turtle wax color cure- only available in black and red. It is a colored polish. I have been detailing cars for 10 years and have used every product from EVERY company out there, including some that you only can get from profesional distributors. There is nothing like this stuff on a black car, it actually looks like the car is wet. it does not last long but is the best gloss you can get. just remember to wear gloves while applying it!

turtle wax ice is what Ive switched too and Im a die hard meguiars fan. I used to use meguiars 26 or 20 wich are both awesome but turtle wax ice goes on and off so damn quickly you can cut the job time in half. the first time I waxed my brand new explorer it took me 8 hrs. to do, with ice it takes me 2-3!!!! what I like best is you CAN do it in the sun, but why would you, and(my favorite) is you CAN get it on the black plastic, in fact they recommend it- its just like armor-alling it. the wax itself costs like 16 bucks a bottle, but it lasts forever. a little goes a long way. the wax itself looks like water and it can be hard to tell where you applied it because it does not haze over. ice sells a great soap too. and dont forget the microfiber towels, terry cloths cause swirls.
