Vince Burlapp of Hollywood Extra fame has come across a series of grainy photos that supposedly reveal the existence of a Nissan Altima coupe. The styling is entirely too reminiscent of the Infiniti G35, with thick C-pillars, tightly drawn headlamps and a beltline that's a dead ringer for the upmarket two-door.

It doesn't take a keen eye to see that the pics are being taken during a photo shoot of some kind, so we'd assume it's being prepped for a debut in the near future (L.A. maybe?). However, you know what happens when people assume, right?

An Altima coupe would make a great competitor with the Toyota Solara and Honda Accord. Even better -- make it rear-wheel drive and it'll be the spiritual successor to the 240SX.

Judging by the unfinished look of the Altima, it's safe to say that we're more than a little skeptical. As always, time will tell.

The interesting thing is, if it uses the VQ35 and is FWD, it might be as fast as the Z or even faster in the 1/4. The current Altima sedan is already 100 lbs lighter than the 350z, so the 2 dor could be a lot lighter. :thumb:

I kinda doubt it, if it is based on the Altima platform. I mean, AWD maybe, but even that is a stretch.

so its not a "new" altima platform then? just a new body style?

Too bad I'm not in SoCal. One of the Shelby Dodge guys was a VP at Nissan but left when they closed up shop in Cali to move to the midwest. He brought the G35 and a few other cars to meets well before they were released.

I kind of like the G6 better if these photos are real and untouched. I'm guessing from what I can see in these pics this supposed Altima coupe will look similar in rear profile to the G6, 350Z, Solara, etc. You can also get the Pontiac with the new 3.6L DOHC V6 and a a 6-speed auto now and the 3.9L OHV VVT with a 6-speed is already a pretty decent combo. Now all they need to do is freshen the interior (which really isn't too bad) and there would actually be a few decent midsize coupes on the market again that I'd consider.

Also for weight, a lot of times the coupes end up heavier than the sedans. The doors are heavier and other body changed to meet the side impact standards. I wouldn't be surprised if the sedan was 50-150 pounds less.

i wouldnt call it too much of a stretch....the altima/maxima badged cars were some of the first ever to sport nissan's "attessa" awd system.....which is world renowned for its snappy launches, RWD style cornering, and excellent road gripping (think of the skyline, thats where this all came from). quite frankly put, the attessa is possibly the best AWD system out there since it is one of the only ones that doesnt understeer....

isn't the attessa system a rear-biased AWD???? if so, that's why its so much better than the rest

If that coupe comes out I will seriously consider it as my next car. I know I'm looking at Nissan as one of the top car line's im considering.
