View Full Version : rear tension struts...
Has anyone thought of bending/arcing the rear tension struts to allow more clearance for higher offset wheels, eliminating the need for spacers and high negative camber settings?
what about a possible relocation of the chassis mounting point.
just kind of curious about this.

I wonder if you build a jig, and then replace the center section... obviously if you bent them, it would shorten up your wheel base and f up your alignment pretty good.

Wouldn't bending them also defeat their purpose? Linear support would be greatly reduced, making them easier to flex if they were bent.
well, they already have 2 bends in them as it is. I'll have to look at them in more detail when I work on the car this winter. I frickin' LOVE the way the car handles with these Motegi Traklite 17x8's running OEM BFG KDW2 205/50 tires... and can't wait to get more meat on them; 225, 235 or even 245 if possible. I've been studying the interference issues and found that up front it's totally the spring perch on the struts, so coilovers will solve that. Out back it's the spring perch AND the tension struts that are a problem, so coilovers only solves half the problem. If I put on spacers now I have fender roll and/or negative camber change requirement. The latter I'm concerned about having too much of for the obvious handling effects, as well as possible clearance issues with the coilovers.
The other crazy thought I had was doing something like a 2-link out back to the mount point on the knuckle, and maybe integrating the forward mount with the P-Werks chassis brace I want to get. I'd think I should be able to triangulate inward just enough to handle the clearance issues. Hell, depending on how that chassis brace sits back there, I might even be able to do it with the factory tension struts, effectively relocating them inboard a couple inches. Might have to swap them left and right to make the bends go inboard instead of outboard, but that sounds like a interesting and elegant solution.

Just make sure you don't buy the $550 tuner lugs. Those only fit on the RSX
no. $70 for McGard locks + spline drive tuner lugs

see if you can get one or two extra sockets for them. i had the original one crack on me cause the shop i had put on my tires used an impact gun on the nuts. cool thing was that i got the wheels and lugs from discount tire direct and they sent me two extras for free. now i leave one in the center console for when i need to take it to a shop or in case i get a flat and keep the other one in my garage.
