When I first got my 2004 srt-4, when I put the key in the ingnition and turned it over the gauge needles would flip over and "step" down in sections, i guess this is a factory thing. But now since i have done some mods it does not do it. I have not touched the computer at all except for aem wideband tuning. WTF??? Please give me some ideas on what this could be. I really have no idea.
Speaco monster intercooler, raptor bov, all hard pipes, msd coil and wires, NGK s. plugs, K&N short ram intake, AGP wastegate actuator, boost controller, full 3" catless exhaust including o2 housing, tuned with AEM wideband.

As far as I know, it's not normal for them to sweep through their range of motion when you start the car. There is a way you can make them do that, but I don't remember exactly what it is. I think it something like putting the key in the ignition and cycling it between off and accessory 3 times which is how you check for codes coinciding with a check engine light.
My guess would be that your car was having an electrical malfunction and it has now stopped.

:werd:
It usually only does that if you disconnect the battery, or if you stole your friends STi and are driving that instead

I heard someone a few years ago mentioning their car did the same thing, but it's not normal and I'm not sure how to explain it. I think you can do a bulb check/gauge sweep manually by holding down the trip odometer button while turning on the ignition. Maybe part of that circuitry or switch wasn't working correctly or was stuck closed. Have you even noticed any problems where the trip odometer would be reset every time you started the car?

no, no problems at all, is their a way that you can make it do that, or was it a malfunction?

Test them out to make sure they are ok. While turning the key to the "ON" position, hold the mileage reset button at the same time. It will do a full sweep such as shown in this crappy cam phone pic.
Edit - blackbird got there before me.
