View Full Version : My transmission woes...

Well I took the car in yesterday for my transmission.
Today I had to take the tech for a drive to demonstrate the problem. They now admit there's a problem. They're taking the transmission apart today or tomorrow to see what's wrong.

Got an update today. Trans is out of the car and disassembled. 1st 2nd 3rd AND 4th gear synchos are trashed. :owned:
So glad I still have a warranty.

Glad they're taking care of it. Maybe a recap of the problems and what it was doing? There seems to be a few different people with transaxle issues lately. And on a side note somehow I'm highly suspicious 4 synchros all went out unless it was run dry or something since they usually don't cause a problem. Almost like they don't really know what's the matter and are telling you that because they don't know themselves for sure and are going to slide it in under warranty... Anyways I guess it doesn't matter as long as you get it fixed. :thumb:

the part where you just said you took it in and are trying to demonstrate "the problem" for the shop was what i am clueless on....what is "the problem?"

Don't make me sodomize you with your lunch box.

The car's been having issues getting into 3rd gear for a while (long before I ever went tracking btw.) Then 1st and 2nd started going bad so I took it in.

The last update I got was they only think 1st and 4th synchros are bad, but they're replacing all 4 just to be safe. Also 3rd gear is getting replaced as it showed some signs of abnormal wear (probably when it would GRIND like a coffee grinder.)

Finally they're saying I'll get the car back tomorrow. 23 days in the shop. Only good thing is I wouldn't have had it out much as the weather's been CRAP since it went in.

oh my god! FINALLY you posted what your problem was! just FYI, usually when people ask for help they problem is explained in the first post, not weeks later...

well, id love to have helped you, but since you failed to let us know what the deal was in the first place i see you already have it being taken care of. next tim you ask for help be more clear and we might be able to save you a few hundred/thousand dollars as well as your time.....

Where exactly in any of my posts did you see me asking for help?
Also given that you're in California exactly what could you possibly have done.

ok, granted i see what youre saying. no you didnt ASK for help...but it doesnt take a fucking rocket scientist to see that you posted the thread cus you wanted people to know you had a problem...generally that is also considered by most people as "asking for help"...for example, if i break my arm and tell someone it is broken, it isnt cus i fucking want to show them what a goddam broken arm looks like. its cus im in pain and want some fucking help....

and being an cali doesnt mean that i cant help you....most of the help ive obtained from the forums was written advice from members across the country who had experienced similar occurences. rather than waste my time and money taking it to a shop i ask around here first and usually someone has an answer that saves me tons of time and money...but fuck it, obviosuly you are rich and have the whole day to yourself to waste so have at it chief....

why are you even a member on these forums at all then if it isnt to share information, give or recieve help, or provide products or services? cus thats why the rest of us are here.....

They're gouging DCX on warranty. There's a very good chance that not everything you mentioned the dealer is replacing is even out of specs or damaged. By the time they add parts and labor it's also probably really close or more than what a new transaxle will cost, but the tech makes more money (hours) on a rebuild. So either you've got a trans tech who may not know exactly what the cause of the trouble is, one that's working the system, and/or a regular tech not well versed in trans rebuilds that's throwing parts at the problem. Whatever the case hopefully they take care of you and it gets fixed.

And it would have been nice for an update or explanation what was going rather than leaving everyone hanging.

I was basically giving updates as I got them bro. They took 24 days to get this all sorted out. As for gouging DCX, throwing parts at the problem and possible inexperience of the tech, all are decent possiblities. From my conversations with the tech that worked on the car, neither him nor the "senior/warranty technician" have even seen this transmission since school... and god knows when that was.

From the paperwork I saw and will be getting a copy of soon, they replaced ALL the synchros, the intermediate shaft, 3rd gear itself, and a bunch of nuts, bolts and other little bits. The list was quite impressive. :D

wow, thats ALOT of parts replaced...when mine broke i was going to buy the new input shaft, 4th gear, bearings and clips myself and do the work myself but parts alone cost as much as a whole new tranny from Pwerks, so i just bought a new one instead and its good to 500/500, has a warranty, and is an upgrade from factory....

glad to see you are back on the road now. no, nobody pissed in my cheerios man, its just that from the very beginning of this thread i was asking you what was the problem and you didnt divulge any real information until just a few posts ago...telling someone your tranny is messed up and at the dealership doesnt really tell us much...

hopefully in the future if/when you break something you will be more vocal about the problem so we can hopefully help ya out! your warranty saved you this time...but pretty soon youre going to be told to pay....after that you are gonna really start to see why these forums are so valuable. anyway, i call truce, hope you aint mad at me! :)

I ain't mad bro. :) The car was in the shop before I even began posting and I was already told it was going to be covered. My post on the 16th was the first they told me what they thought was wrong.

It's all good though. And as for the warranty thing, I got me a nice 7/75 $100 deductible addon with the car which I've considered canceling. And I'm always on the lookout for a parts car.

if you plan to do any modding at all i would just cancel the warranty. youll be paying extra for nothing. i was dumb and got gap insurance with my car for an extra .2% interest rate when i bought my car and now that the car is worth way more than i have left to owe on it, its just a waste to have to pay that extra percentage.

parts cars are definitely out there. tons of SRTs have been written off as totalled but still have plenty of available parts. of coruse, youd be picking up a salvage title, but hell if all you are doing is stripping it and getting rid of the frame again then who really cares?

Yea the warranty cost was rolled into my financing. $1300 for 7/75, $100 deductible, no out of pocket for rental while in the shop for warranty repairs... which I only discovered recently :doh!: I more got the warranty to cover bullshit items like broken sunvisor clips, sunroof failures, window motor faults, etc. This was before I learned about the number of wrecks out there. :)

I am keeping my eye out for one though still. There was one locally I missed out on. Kicking myself for that.
