First, find a turd. Fortunately, the SRT-4 has one. It's attached to the turbo, and is known as the exhaust manifold. Get yourself some eye protection, carbide bits, a rotary grinder (you can use a dremal, but I used a air powered one).

Start polishing!!!

I used the gasket for my 3" Maxxfab o2 housing as a guide to how far to port it. Later I am going to upload a .doc file so you can print a stencil out. Be carefull how far you go, some of the walls limit the amount of material you can take off. I plan on brining it to work so I can mic out the wall thickness before I go any further. I took off anything point that would impead airflow, and tried to round everything to the outlet as much as possible. Later, I will go back and polish it a bit more.

On the head side, I concentrated on removing the mold marks and straightening the edges of the ports. besides that and cleaning up some rough spots, there isn't much you can do, unless you are planning on port matching it to the head.

And because I am an asshole, I took a pic of my work space. BTW, it's February.

I really wish I had a welder, if some material was added, you could really make some improvements, but when you get down to it, there is only so far you can polish a turd.

Do you plan on smoothing that out a little bit more?

el_jefe

Yeah. If you notice the circle edge isn't quite smooth yet. I am going to mic the walls and see how much more I can remove, then use something a bit less aggressive to smooth things out. There is only so far I will go to make it look pretty, odds are I could put it on right now and dyno exactly the same as if I spent another hour or two polishing it.

Good, I'm glad to hear that. I was going to recommend finishing it if you had said you were done. Looks good so far.:thumb:

they all have crack pretty much. thats essentially thw whole purpose of doing the PnP on the exmani...to eliminate the hot spots and help EG flow better to reduce temps...

I clicked on this thread hoping that it would be a tutorial on how to polish one of eric's toilet knobs.
