Alright, I have an 03 that just turned 83,000. I was driving normally yesterday down a 45mph rd, I wasn't beating on it or anything like that (I usually don't). I came up to a light and everything sounded fine, then I started to take off and I heard this semi loud clunk and I could feel it right in front of my shifter.

It only happens as soon as I start moving, just a little clunk, but very noticeable. Feels like something is coming back and hitting something underneath, (right near the area of the transmission). I checked out the motor mounts and they are both fine (inserts), I still have to check the tranny mount and will do that later today. I just wanted some opinions on possible other issues that it could be other than the tranny mount. Thanks!:thumb:

Could also be the rear LCA bushings..

oddly enough, all of the above could be correct, it could also be the lower control arm ball joints. i had a buddy who had those come a little loose on his and it did the same thing you are describing.

when you checked the mounts to see if they were broken did you actualyl remove the bolt as well? i would check the bolts to make sure THEY arent waht is broken....the mount may appear fine but if the bolt is cracked/broken inside the mount, you may not notice it at first glance

I took out the bolts in both mounts and they were perfect. Ive been too busy to even attempt to look at the tranny mount yet. I'll do that tomorrow.

Or the center motor mount. How hard is that to change?

Could also be the rear LCA bushings..Im gonna check that tomorrow too.

the center mount is the msot difficult of all of them to change, and i HIGHLY doubt that is the culprit, but i suppose anything is possible. basically to change that one out you are gonna have to drop the motor out, or at least shift it far enough to the side to get clearance for tools and bolts...and to get that much lateral clearance you are going to have to remove both the upper and lower mounts, tranny mount, and move a LOT of stuff out of the way and shift the engine/tranny combo with a cherry picker, and even still you will probably not get enough clearance....you will most likely have to drop it out. BUT the good news is, like i said, i HIGHLY doubt it is that one. the upper or lower 99% of the time would have broken LONG before the center one, since those two are the ones that see all the TQ applied and have to fight against it...

dont foget to check the lower ball joints like i was telling you. ive seen it happen before. they may be completely tightened down bolts, but the joint can still come loose even if the bolt is tight. trust me. been there, done that. we ended up having to put in a larger bolt to solve the problem. it DID solve the problem though.

It was the tranny mount, the stock one had a HUGE tear in it. My only problem now is the belts squeaking, gotta change that too.

dont change your belts. they will still squeak probably. been there done that. when they get dirty the pulleys get glazed over as well as the belts. if you just clean everything up really good the squeaking will stop, i promise you. what i do to clean things up is get a small cup and pour a little bit of alcohol in it and grab a used crappy tooth brush. dip the toothbrush in the alcohol and with the car running, place the alcohol wet bristles on the belt bands as it moves. be careful not to get it in the corners or it will grab the toothbrush. repeat this process several times and get the pulleys as good as you can too. once it dries your problem will be completely solved. if you arent comfortable doing this ths way, you can take the belts off and clean them by hand as well as the pulleys. a new belt will still squeak if the pulleys are glazed over, so no matter what you do, you are still going to have to clean things up. might as well try this way first before you go spend money.

what have you done about your tranny mount then?

I'll try that, sounds better than belt dressing, (which is crap). I went with the AGP mount, I get alot more vibrations but I can deal with that.
