well, i will keep this short. i was exiting the 15 south onto the 91 east and hit an oil spill traveling at an acceptable rate of speed, pitched the car, went over the right curb, fucked up the wheels, then pitched back left and shot directly into the gaurdrail and spun 180 degrees.

so far, it all looks to be just some body work and maybe a light frame job up front only. still runs fine, i drove it 100+ miles home, but the wheels and tires need to be replaced for sure as well and after bouncing up over a curb im sure the alignment prolly will show signs of maybe some mior suspension damage. dunno. ill post pics tomorrow when its light out.

for the record, i was not racing at all, just a fucked up situation with the oil spill is all. be careful and alert out there guys, i couldve avoided this if i was looking more carefully at the road.

Saw your thread on the other site and sorry to hear about it. Any pictures of the damage yet? Hopefully it's not as bad as you think (then again if they buy it off you could shop for something else if you wanted). Main thing is no one was injured.

no pics yet, im at work. ill get them later today. car still runs perfectly fine, still strong as ever. im sure the damage is not nearly as expensive as the hit sounded. it is only the second time in like 10 years ive ever been in ANY kind of accident, so when it happens i really blow it out of proportion i guess. the last accident i had was someone rear ending me. i thought my car was totaled but it only took 2 days for the shop to have it back to new, so obviosuly i get a little more emotional than i should about it.

and brandon, buying your car would be no different than keeping mine with that huge gash you have down the side of it....if i wanted to drive a mangled rig i'll just leave mine the way it is, lol

eric, when you say "if insurance buys it off of me" what does that mean? ive never experienced a "total" loss before, so does this mean they give me the bullshit $13000 that the blue book tells them my car is worth or what? cus i still owe on this fucking thing and i cant do shit to get a new car if all they are going to do is pay it off and then leave me high and dry....

If you're still driving it then that's a good sign but I would crawl around under the car and check to make sure none of the suspension got damaged or bent before you drive it much more. Who do you have your insurance through? I've been with the "gecko" company for about 8 or 9 years and they've paid out on two total losses and a third vehicle. Worst case scenario I can give you a lot of info on what you need to do.

Hoping that it's not as major and no major structural damage like it sounds like, the first thing I'd do is find out about how the adjuster is going to look at it when you file your claim. Many times they will come out or have "certified" repair shops they work with inspect the vehicle for them. Remember they can't force you to use a different shop. If you verify it's safe to drive the car you can take it somewhere else if you want or have it towed. The two shops in 29 Palms are so-so in my opinion but it's been a couple years since I've used one of them. You might start talking to people and see if they can recommend a good place down in the Coachella Valley or somewhere else.

Next thing are insurance rates. If you have a clean driving record and are classified a "good driver" then you might get a freebie and not have it affect your rates. I'm guessing from the sound of it a police report was not filed. That might work in your favor or against you. If you were sited for driving too fast for conditions (which might very well be what they'd do at the scene if it was just road surface oil but maybe not if there was an accident or something spilled) then your rates would definitely be in jeopardy. If you weren't sited on the scene then they probably aren't going to write you up after the fact for a moving violation since they didn't witness it or the accident. You are required over a certain amount of property damage to file a report but that's more paperwork to follow you around and potentially hurt your rates (which a loss will still probably be noted on your C.L.U.E. (http://www.choicetrust.com/) report anyways but not all carriers use that to assess rates).

But if there was an actual spillage of oil and not just a new or dirty road surface and you can get that documented it might be in your favor as you could get your insurance to find you "not at fault". I'd contact the CHP and see if there was any other accidents or spillage noted in that area during that time frame and also contact CalTrans about it.

most of the damage to the driver side fender was caused by me trying to get out of the car. the inpact pushed the fender back and the door wouldnt open at all, so i had to force my way out, and when i got parked, i had to smash it in a little bit so the door would open and close normally. and the holes in the hood and fender are from where i had zip ties holding the corner of the hood down before i was able to bend the radiator support enough to keep the hood closed on its own.
