Just got this email from Gail at Team Continental.
Here are the driver education dates for next year!
Team Continental has 4 dates for 2008.
Friday March 7th, 2008
Friday May 16th, 2008
Saturday June 28th, 2008
Wednesday July 30th. 2008
Here is a little more info:
Portland International Raceway has repaved the complete track and made some changes to the track at the same time. Because of the track repavement, the cost of renting the track has increased. Therefore Team Continental will also have to raise our rate for the Driving Schools. The Tentative cost for 2008 is $175.00<-----Still pretty good price
Because of the “new” track, I have a feeling we may have a few students and drivers that will want to try out the new track layout.
The Team Continental website has just been updated with the new dates, but the actual registration from and pre-online registration forms have not been completed.
You can fill out the “pre-online register” form and in the comment area, put the date of the school you wish to attend. You might have to do a “refresh” to have the new dates appear on the website.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email.
We look forward to seeing you in 2008 at one of our Driving Schools.
WOOHOO!!!!

Glad you started this sidetity.
Cindi from Nakid racing is once again wanting to help out the srt4 owners with setting up an all srt group. If we can get 20 people to commit to the first march day we may be able to get it set up. Please post up if you would like to attend and check out an experience you will never forget. If you have not been to one of these talk with some of the guys who have been. Great experience and soooo much fun. Lets see if we can get 20 and have our own class again. The sooner we find out how many people want to attend the better off we will be. So i will start the list please add your name if you would like to attend.

yeah, once the dates are posted it's all good to go for registration. You should do Saturday Andrew. Only thing is ground school would be friday night for you, you may have to leave work early to get down there on time.
so wait you can register for the ones in june?? because i amy not be able to make march one as of now but not for sure but i know summer time is good

yeah, print out the form and it'll ask you which date. Send your saturday for june today matt. that one will fill up very fast being the weekend.
yeah true that i just printed it i just dont wanna pay for march and not be able to make it, or take up a space of someone who can go. so i am gonna probably attend the june one more then likely due to work and what not

Online pre-registration and registration form on the top lefthand corner.
You have to send an online pre-registration this year and also print out the form. No payment info yet so I gave them my CC# as usual. She's thinking about $175 each event but not 100% sure as of right now.
yea printed out the form and i am gonna work on it till the game starts lol, but i figure this one will be very busy so i know andrew and i probably can only make this one. it will be nice to get owned by keith yet at another thing

Just go there to have fun and learn to drive better. If you go with a slower car you WILL get burned on the straights no matter what you do. Driver mod this, driver mod that, you won't keep up on a full race track if the car can't put out some bang. :nawz: There was a huge difference watching Froggy run the 1st time on stock and after he put on stage 3. He was passing people left and right.
The trick however is to be fast in the corners as well. HPDE only lets you pass in the straights so you gotta chase that mofo in the corners so you can Pwnt in the straights. Hahahaha.

I dissagree. I think it is more about driver mod and suspinsion setup than horse power. PIR doesn't have very long straights and even our cars do not use 5th or not for long. So it is all about conservation of momentum and corning like a bat out of hell.
Plan B

You've been driving by yourself all these years. You've never competed with anyone. Remember, don't pay attention to the competition itself. Ignore other racers. The one you need to beat is yourself.

It sounds like Ronin is referencing that there is no passing in the corners on a HPDE day. You follow the other person as close as you can in the corners and pass them on the straight sections if you can. Other then that you are correct. If I had to hit rewind on mods I would have purchased good CO's before S3. Thats why I think it is important for all to ask themselves what do you want to do with their ride, before you start modding a ride.

Randy, you are correct with what you said. It really is a combination between good driving, good suspension, and power to go fast. But in HPDE, you can't pass in the corners, so what you have to do is be close to the guy in front of you in the corners so you get the blue flag to pass in the straight. You can be behind my ass all you want in a slow car in the corners, but come the straights the slow car won't be able to pass in HPDE. So saying a fast car doesn't matter would be incorrect.

Correct to a point, but even if you have a faster stright line car if i can close it up enough in the corners to get them to flag you, you have to let me pass. Even if you are faster on the straight.
Think of it this way if you pull from a guy every straight but he is right back on your ass in the corners, let him pass as he is faster..............because he caught you.

I'd like to see a Chevrolet Cavalier or (whatever stock econo car) with the best suspension in the world go at it with some fast cars in the corners. Maybe we can convince an instructor to take MGM's car out during lunch. (Just joking Greeny).
It'd be pretty interesting to see how a slow car with good suspension would stack up to a fast car with good suspension with worser driver. We really won't know unless we actually try it. Otherwise it's just speculation.

Just talked with Mark on the phone. Couple things are changing or gonna run different than planned.
1. There are 15+ pro race teams signed up to test and tune on the HPDE day with TC so the option for another seperate run group like we hoped for is not going to happen. He did offer to section of the paddock so we can all pit in one spot next to one another so we can still chat and hang out. We are still very welcome to come down but we will be ran in TC's expereince groups like they run everytime. Bigginer, Interm, and expereinced. After talking with Mark for a while he said the draw is caused in part by the new track surface and the begining of the race season and all the teams wanting to get some time in, so he proposed that if we would still like to have a seperate run group that he would accomodate us on June 28th. That is a Saturday so no time off and will be later in the summer for a better chance for good weather. I told him i would talk with you all and see if going down for that date also is something we want to plan on.
2. The price has been set for the HPDE. $179 That includes the night school (manditory for first timers, and a great refresher for everyone else) and the full track day with 4 30 miniute at speed sessions with personal instruction from trained instructors.
Mark also wanted to express he was sorry the private run group is unavalible for this day but he enjoys us joining them for the HPDE's and hopes we contiue to come out and show how fast our cars and driver are getting.
I still plan on attending and not having the personal run group doesn't bother me a bit. I know the kind of experience TC offers and look forward to getting the experience again. I will be sending my money in this weekend. Yahoooooooooooooooooo

how much different experience levels do we have? if there are two n00b groups then that is as split up as we should be, really. it is also cool to chill with some of ya boys and watch ya other boys go round and round. im gonna tell them the big turbo and stage 3 guys are far too reckless to be in my group. my skillz are too good to have them clogging my lane. those who show up with sst's are welcome in my group.

January 25, 2008
Again I want to thank everyone that has pre-registered by email and to those that have sent in their completed registration form and payment. At this time we have 66 participants for the March 7th School. Mark Hanken, Team Continental Driving Master, has asked me to close the registration for Group 1 and Group 2. Group 3 is close to being closed. Group 4, race prepared, cars is still open.
The closing of Group 1 and Group 2 is based on pre-registration emails. I will keep spots open in the school for those who have sent me their pre-registration email, but have not mailed in their completed registration and payment, until Feb 9th, 2008.
If you have been waiting to send in your payment, please be advised that I do not process Credit Cards until two weeks before the school.
I will continue to take pre-registration emails and start a waiting list for Group 1 and Group 2 for the March 7th School.
If I do not receive the completed registration form and payment by Feb. 9th, 2008, I will drop those now on the unconfirmed March 7th school and go to the waiting list.
We certainly appreciate everyone that has signed up for the school.
Should you have any questions as whether you have only pre-registered or are on the confirmed list, please do not hesitate to email or call me.
Again this is being sent to a large email listing, but at the end of January I will remove all those that have not either pre-registered or are on the confirmed list.

Well, I'm not gonna be able to make this one. Too much uncertainty with having to move at the end of February and not knowing what my finances will be like. Freakin sucks.

Drag radials would be horrible. That sidewall is mush compared to nice Z-rated performance tires. I think the front end would feel pretty sloppy flying around corners on DR's, although the compound would put the power down fairly decent I'm sure.

DR with corners= death/crash/bent metal
I would bet my balls on that. DR are meant to be able to gain the most straight ahead traction by giving up there strength and rigidity in every other way. Sidewalls for one and the shape of the transistion from center tire to sidewall.
|_| DR
(_) Good cornering tire
I know horrible example but it gets the point across.
